Description

Pantex ESB Plus – Why We like It:

Pantex ESB Plus is an option for treatment of coccidiosis (Elmeria spp.) in cage birds and pigeons and treatment of toxoplasmosis in cage birds. This is a good product to use against coccidiosis resistant to treatment with just Amprolium or birds with repeated issues with coccidiosis. This product is an easy to mix, water soluble powder, used in the drinking water and accepted well by birds. Please consult with veterinarian for species specific usage.

To restore your birds healthy digestive system bacteria we recommend following up with a probiotic such as Vetafarm Probiotic or Healthline Restore Pro-Biotic.

Coccidiosis and your birds:

Coccidiosis is common in young birds and also can affect older birds when their immune system is compromised. Coccidi is a parasitic disease of the intestinal tract of animals caused by coccidian protozoa. There are numerous strains of this protozoa and fast treatment is necessary for good outcomes.

Damage to the intestinal tract from coccidiosis can lead to compromised digestion and even death. Coccidiosis can reoccur due to exposure to a different strain than the precious infection or not properly medicating to cover the entire lifecycle of the organism. The most common treatment for coccidiosis is Amprolium, a coccidiostat, which is a thiamine uptake inhibitor. Cocci feeds on thiamine so this limits their food source, Amprolium, despite being the most used coccidiostat has only moderate efficacy.

When treating birds for coccidiosis we highly recommend not using a multivitamin with thiamine, especially if only using amprolium. Due to the moderate efficacy of amprolium we recommend using other treatment options such as this medication.
